Society of Physics Students

The UNCA Society of Physics Students branch is affiliated with the National Society of Physics Students Council, and focuses on the advancement and growth of majors in physics, astronomy, and other STEAM based degrees. In the Society of Physics Students (SPS) we keep our members involved in community-based activities with local schools, and fellow classmates at our own university. We teach introductory physics demonstrations for students in the community, actively participate in the NC Science Festival, and host a variety of fun STEAM based activities throughout the year! Members have the opportunity to be inducted into Sigma Pi Sigma, the National Physics Honor Society. We also keep our members up-to-date on the latest exclusive scholarships and internships offered through SPS National and a variety of STEM-based programs in North Carolina.

Our UNC Asheville SPS Chapter has won an annual SPS award for the past several years. Typically 20 to 30 chapters out of the over 700 chapters across the nation are given awards by the National SPS Office each year.

In SPS we encourage any student interested in STEAM to join! We would love to see you at our next meeting! We meet on the first Tuesday of each month from 12-1pm in RRO119
